A reminder of what the Bay looked like before environmental regulation—open dumping of industrial waste, raw sewage, and fuel, and constant oil spills.

Before EPA and laws like the Clean Water Act, America's waters were choked with pollution. Ohio's Cuyahoga River, which became a symbol of environmental degradation in the 60s, was so polluted that it repeatedly caught fire.

Today, it's estimated that the #CleanWaterAct alone prevents 700 *billion* pounds of toxic pollution from entering US waters every single year.

We MUST defend these vital laws and institutions.

A couple of years ago, two kayakers noticed something strange along the #Alameda shoreline: thousands of glittering pieces of metal poking out of the mud.

They reported their observations to our #pollution hotline, leading to a full investigation, a cleanup of more than 12,000 pounds of toxic metal trash & a plan to return this former industrial site to native plants!

SERIES OF STORMS WILL BRING PERIODS OF RAINFALL TO THE REGION
LEADING TO POTENTIALLY RAPID RISES ON AREA CREEKS AND STREAMS

WHEN: Friday thru Sunday. Light to Moderate rainfall expected over the North SF Bay Friday & Saturday. Heaviest rainfall accumulation is expected Friday & Saturday. Showers will linger into Sunday.

Streams and creeks will only see a slight to moderate rise with the first storm, and while streams are expected to stay below action/monitor stage with this storm it will prime the soils for quicker and more noteworthy rises with subsequent storms. The second stronger and wetter storm will result in greater and more rapid rises on small creeks, streams and rivers.

WHERE: #Sonoma & #Napa Counties. Latest model guidance suggests the North Bay will receive the greatest accumulation of precipitation with the heaviest rainfall expected over the North Bay coastal range and mountains. #California #SFBay #NorthBay

A #sewage leak of 20 million gallons of wastewater into a #ContraCostaCounty wetland could have considerable ecological consequences for fish & wildlife.

As Baykeeper executive director Sejal Choksi-Chugh explained to KQED, "When you’ve got a lot of this wastewater discharging in concentrated levels in an area like that, we’re going to see some exposure to chemicals that are in wastewater. That's going to have an impact; whether or not we see that impact in this generation of fish and wildlife or in their next generation is something that we would have to see." kqed.org/news/12016804/how-maj

It is time to find my next role. I am on the hunt for
- #CISO, #CSO, head/director/#VP of information security
- head/director/VP of #cybersecurity
- head/director/VP of #compliance (aka trust & assurance)
- head/director/VP of #privacy
I am also considering roles in larger companies at the #director/VP/senior manager level, managing specific aspects of their #InfoSec program such as security engineering, compliance/trust & assurance, and the like.
My background is diverse, starting out in aviation management transitioning to IT then fell into security and privacy. A touch of #redTeam but mostly #blueTeam roles over the years, much hands on transitioning to more strategic roles as of late with some technical projects to keep me grounded. Have worked and led multiple remote first and worldwide diverse teams; hybrid and in office can be discussed.

I can tell you that once you file for an office, you get bombarded with questionnaires to fill out, as sent to your campaign email address on file. Some of those groups post the answers. So if you want to dig, look for those posts. And pay attention to if candidates bothered to respond to surveys - it shows what they think of voters. The Sierra & Green Party surveys each took me a few hours to do!

1) Greens. So this is going to be weird, but our local Alameda County Green Party does post all their survey results. If Empower Oakland are the fascists, as someone above claimed, then surely these would be the opposite? (I'm endorsed by both. *shrug*) acgreens.wordpress.com/voter-g

(I did the dubious thing of joining NextDoor, and I liked this comment I just made, so am reposting it here. If I get around to it, I'll put it on my website.)

San Francisco, we can do better than this! Boost to spread the word.

With less than one week until the last day to vote, only 23% of registered SF voters have returned their ballots.

It's better to return your ballot sooner rather than later so you have time to fix any problems that could keep your vote from being counted.

If there's a problem with your returned ballot, the SF Department of Elections will try to contact you to fix the problem.

⭐ Do democracy a favor and vote early! ⭐ Put your ballot into an official drop box or bring it to the City Hall Voting Center. You can still mail your ballot, but remember, in San Francisco it must be postmarked by or on Election Day to be counted.
