“The Online Safety Act [UK] places onerous duties on small websites and blogs that may lead them to close or geoblock UK users rather than risk penalties. The closure of small sites will not keep children safe but will benefit bigger sites, including Facebook and X, who are laying waste to content moderation on their platforms."

The UK government can exempt small, safe websites to protect #netplurality.

I have written to my MP:

I write almost as much in sorrow as anger.

I voted for you in the last election and have voted Labour in General Elections since 1979. That last vote for you was very much a personal vote: I had been increasingly dismayed that the Labour Party was more intent on purging members than attacking the excesses of Johnson and Truss and then I could not see that the prospectus offered in the manifesto addressed the real problems faced by a country with threadbare public services and social safety nets and an economy stifled by ageing, poorly maintained infrastructure, stagnating consumer confidence and, of course, Brexit; on the other hand the country urgently needed the Tories out and I thought that your track record should make you a good constituency MP and you'd only had half a term to make your mark, it felt fair to vote for you to have another term.

Been up all night trying to decide if it’s a crown stamped on a Pint glass or that the width signs in the dartford tunnel are now in feet and inches (both claims of huge Brexit benefits by the tories)

"Carers UK estimated last year that if every unpaid carer in the country decided to cease caring tomorrow and joined the “productive” economy instead, that would cost the state £184bn a year. In other words, the cost of disability is already being shouldered mainly by disabled people and their loved ones.'

This is our Foreign Minister, do we think he's compromised?

"As shadow foreign secretary, I’m an Atlanticist, a deep believer in Britain’s military, intelligence and nuclear alliance with the US. But as a person, I’m also a product of the Atlantic. Sometimes, when the cabin stills, flying over the ocean, I think about the crossings that made me."

Frankly anybody who calls themselves an "Atlanticist" is just carrying water for Oceania

The UK Online Safety Act comes into effect today.

Its onerous duties may cause many small sites, blogs and fedi instances to shut down or geoblock UK users when faced with potential fines and penalties.

This won't keep children safe. It'll benefit large platforms like Facebook and X that are laying waste to content moderation.
