I can’t get over the cognitive dissonance of spending 12 hours of intense work in clinic, using every minute of my 25 years of training and experience to formulate treatment plans for my patients with #cancer, and then to come home and check the news and to read about every part of the infrastructure needed to attain the knowledge for these treatment plans bring intentionally dismantled

"Republican state legislators unveiled a new effort on Friday to derail the health care network that has helped people in Texas continue accessing abortion years after the Lone Star State banned the procedure. The...bill targets tech companies that allow patients to order abortion pills online and nonprofit funds that help them travel out of state for care..."

Just spent 6 hours in an ER (I'm fine) and witnessed, in no particular order:

A nurse bit by a patient

A patient screaming MURDERERS from an exam room

Two nurses patiently dressing and re-dessing an elderly man who kept stripping

Someone yelling at a student doctor about wait times

Urine being spilled on the floor

Someone yelling "the patient made a run for it!"

A patient trying to call the cops on doctors

Whatever we think hospital workers should be paid, it's not enough.

Wes Streeting is all over the media pushing his health 'reforms' this weekend.
A reminder..

"Good Law Project research shows that more than 60% of the money invested in the new health secretary since he entered parliament in 2015 has come from companies and individuals with links to private health"

One day, hopefully soon, we'll get our #vengeance against the reich-wing #fascists destroying our nation from the inside out.

Our vengeance will consist of:
• Restoring the #RuleOfLaw
• Welcoming #refugees, #asylumseekers, and other #immigrants
• Rebuilding #dueprocess and strengthening it against compromise
• Reinstating and strengthening the #separationofpowers
• Investing heavily in #science
• Re-engaging with our #allies and mending broken relationships
• Feeding the hungry, housing the #homeless protecting the vulnerable
• Rehabilitating women's control over their own bodies and #healthcare
• Replacing banned books in libraries and classrooms
• Ensuring those who acted illegally while in positions of power are held accountable for their choices

My friend's daughter-in-law is a nurse practitioner at a VA hospital. She's been instructed to send, every week, an email to Elno listing 5 things she did during the week.

She says that #VA #healthcare workers, who can make more money in the private sector, are quitting in droves.

First Red Don creates an #unemployment crisis for #veterans, who make up a considerable segment of the federal workforce. Now he's creating a healthcare crisis.

Don't forget that he's also screwing #Afghans and others who supported American #military operations as translators and in other roles.

There's only one possible conclusion: President Fragile Ego Tinyhands hates our veterans, our #troops, and all who support them.

WOW just got back from the veterans' march, which overshot the event permit's estimated crowd size by 2 orders of magnitude.

With very good reason, the anger is extremely intense. Every time a speaker mentioned Republicans, there were many shouts of "COWARDS" and "TRAITORS" and "WHERE ARE THE REPUBLICANS??" among deafening boos.

There were also chants of "FUCK CHUCK SCHUMER," and this was a crowd with lots of federal workers in it.

"But undocumented parents of U.S.-born children, if picked up by immigration authorities, face the risk of losing custody of their children. Without a power-of-attorney document or a guardianship outlining who will take care of the children left behind, the children go into the U.S. foster care system, making it harder for the parents to regain custody of their children in the future."

"Restricting gender-affirming care doesn’t just keep trans people from accessing hormone therapy and surgery to alleviate gender dysphoria — it can keep them from seeing a primary care provider at all, Smith said. Providers of gender-affirming medical care are often a trans person’s main health resource."

tl;dr — If you're switching jobs or have had a "qualifying event", choose literally any #healthinsurance provide that isn't Aetna.

#Aetna has repeatedly denied my prior auth for a life-changing (and potentially life-saving) drug, one that had been covered for over a year on Anthem. Aetna's reason? I'm only eligible if I've previously had a #heartattack or #stroke — events that this drug would help prevent.

Let the cynicism of that sink in for a moment.

Essentially, Aetna demands that I give my condition a chance to kill me before they'll grudgingly agree to pay for the thing that could've helped me survive.

That isn't just greedy: it's wrong. And I will be sharing that observation and the rest of our interactions with the state insurance board.

"...the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a report last week indicating that it was impossible for House Republicans to meet their goal of eliminating $880 billion in spending over the next 10 years from the committee that oversees Medicaid and Medicare without cutting from either of the social safety net programs. Medicaid provides health insurance for disabled and low-income people. Medicare insures seniors over 65."
