@newsmast @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy #fediblock you should block threads and bluesky. There is a long history of them killing projects like XMPP because they have such a huge market dominance.

They will federate, will get more popular potentially and then discard the fediverse. ploum.net/2023-06-23-how-to-ki

ploum.netHow to Kill a Decentralised Network (such as the Fediverse)

After seeing how #FediAntisemitism can be useful as a tag (not getting into the issue of false positives on it), I'd like to see something like that for other #Moderation issues we see on the #Fediverse.

I propose we start using the tags #FediRacism, #FediQueerphobia, and #FediTransphobia, when posting about examples of those things.

This will have three major uses...

1) Serve as a more specific warning to instances that are actively trying to protect themselves against those things. (eg, Black or Queer instances that need to spot #Racism and #Queerphobia fast to protect their users from #Harassment)

2) Give us a more direct way to track these issues on the network at large, and thus collect data on them.

3) Provide a more granular tagging for #FediBlock and #InstanceBlock posts.

I would like to say all this with the disclaimer that these tags always have false positives, so I encourage people to check the receipts before they block.

What are people's thoughts on this?

All,

Please let this serve as notice. We will be fediblocking tech.lgbt in 1 week's time, on December 7th. This decision was sparked by reports of the owner, David, bypassing a block to harass a member of the instance by email. This is not the first time either admin have crossed the line. I've had the instance muted in the past and personally blocked the admins and mods to preserve existing follower relationships between our servers, but over 2 years the behavior has only continued.

I ran a local poll for a week and asked for feedback from indiepocalypse.social members, and while the turnout was low, there was overwhelming support to say this was the correct move to make.

Please spread the word so folks who want to maintain mutuals or follower relationships can take the action they feel is appropriate.
