Quickly slapped on wig, lipstick, scarf and hat to document it this much at least! It's way too warm in my living room for this. I may have done multiple more little dances in addition to this one here!

Forgive me posting the link before I've finished the video, but I am just so tickled by Abby Cox in her "I'm just gonna say it" era. "Before you go, Abby, why would you say suffragists were criminals? They fought for our right to vote. Yeah, they did. And breaking the law was an important part of that process. You can be both a hero for human rights and a criminal. They usually go hand in hand."
Hat pins! Sass! History! Outfits!
Who has links for online national acrchives? I'm loving browsing through fashion magazines from the past, so if you have recs for those, please add. No translation options needed. #historicalfashion #sewing #history #historybounding @sewing
A little #HistoricalCostuming interlude! Here's this screenshot of the latest Prior Attire video, where Izabela is showing off different 1830s clothes.
But look! Look! It's just applied bias strips on a bodice and it looks so cute and fun and interesting, oh heck! I don't think I've ever seen this up close before.
I made this outfit a while ago and it's still one of my favorites. It was mostly inspired by Edwardian fashion. There was a ton of hand-stitching done on the blouse between the insertion lace, buttonholes, and finishing seams, so it took a total of 55 hours to make.
Blouse and skirt made and patterned by me
Look, it's unlikely the illustrator meant them all to look like a bunch of lesbians, but that's what I see anyway.
(Scanned and reconstructed from a fashion magazine spread from early 1900s, Femina.)
Ladies, gentlemen and persons with gender beyond the ken of cis minds: I am firmly back on my bullshit, browsing Victorian sewing manuals.
Sure, I already found what I wanted, but I also have a dozen other tabs open!
Browsing more old pattern catalogues to soothe my brain wrinkles. In today's edition of "this was one of the most expensive pages to print in this entire thing" I present to you: "Say, do you like bees? "
Whatever madness possessed the illustrator has abated and a sense of style has returned to the fashion magazine! These are actually pretty nice and balanced on the whole!
It's been fun seeing the sleeve shape change, the balloon of sleeve has been moving up and up.
Am indulging in perusing an old pattern catalogue slash women's magazine slash fashion periodical from 1896, and I've seen this particular fashion plate before, but every time... Every time I look at it and wonder at the fact that quite a few people thought this was the cutting edge and important enough for colour print...
Catalogue: "Waterproof bias velveteen skirt binding. Protected by a brush edge, the most serviceable and sightly binding ever produced; cut curved to fit the skirt, the brush edge is invisible and will not wear the most delicate shoes."
I, upon connecting the dots between the trend for silk, snakeskin and suede shoes, and how the really heavy skirts with their crinoline supports must have previously scratched up so many shoes: "THAT'S why the brush binding??"

Brace yourselves for a reproduction postcard from 1915 or so, a cornucopia of an increasing number of "Wait, what?" the longer you look at it. It has chickens and the barest fucking tangential connection to the holiday of Easter and that's wonderful. Gaze upon it:
