I'm running a game for my son and his friends (ages 7—8) for a while now, and it dawns on me that in order to make a six player party level up by the rules from a moderately long adventure (let's say — 5 sessions), it would have to be a complete murderfest... We're nearing the end of our second adventure and, 5 sessions in, the players are now involved in their second battle, and the first serious one. Good thing that I just tell them to level up when it feels good.

So, I'm planning to level them to 3rd level after this battle ends, or at least after they wrap up the loose ends (and save the goblin valley from the curse of the Domination Spirit. In my game you save the goblins). I don't see why sneaking around, finding a hermit shaman to help you and recruiting a young discredited hobgobliness warlord is less important than dispatching scores of minions...
