As someone who never used Reddit I must ask. What's the difference between subreddits and forums? Reddit seems to me more like centralised form of the latter.

They're forums under a huge central system, and posts that do well get featured on central pages regardless of what forum/subreddit they're from (unless that subreddit has been specifically blacklisted for the main pages, probably also if it's tagged NSFW)
